Your City Commissioner

Meet Rachel Saltzman Friedland

As a dedicated and longtime resident of Aventura, Rachel Saltzman Friedland has been proud to serve on the City of Aventura Commission, contributing significantly to the continued improvement of our beloved city.

With an unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Aventura’s residents, she utilizes her diverse skills and experiences to champion the interests of our community.

Rachel’s devotion to South Florida’s educational opportunities remains unwavering. Currently, she serves on the Governing Board of the Aventura Charter School and the Don Soffer Aventura High School. Previously she served on the Aventura Charter School Advisory Committee and she was a founding member of the Don Soffer High School Foundation Board. Her passion for education and her advocacy for students have a lasting impact on the future of our city.

Her involvement extends beyond education to her deep commitment to community service. In 2020, she founded Aventura Heroes where she raised money to feed frontline workers and support our local restaurants and businesses as they struggled through shutdowns. After serving thousands of meals to doctors, nurses, fire rescue, police officers and teachers, Rachel co-founded Aventura Cares to begin helping individuals and families struggling to put food on the table. Aventura Cares continues to provide services and support to patients in hospitals, children in foster care, homeless residents, victims of abuse, enhances Holocaust education in schools and builds bridges to combat anti semitism in after school programs throughout South Florida. With Rachel’s lead, Aventura Cares lead the first Pro Israel Rally at the Waterways Shops in Aventura only days after the horrific attack.

As a founding member of the Social Action Committee at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center, Rachel actively engages with underserved communities and promotes a culture of service. In all her efforts, she diligently works to fulfill the Jewish value of tikkun olam, contributing to the betterment of the world and fostering a stronger Aventura community.

Throughout her life, Rachel has been dedicated to philanthropic endeavors both within Florida and internationally. With her proven fundraising and event organizing skills, she consistently inspires others to support those in need. She has maintained an active role at the Broward Partnership for the Homeless and the Miami Rescue Mission where she routinely serves food, offers legal assistance to homeless residents, coordinates donation drives, and provides toys and necessities to children in shelters. Her commitment transcends borders as a volunteer Board Member with Beit Issie Shapiro, a leading organization in Israel dedicated to assisting disabled children and their families.

As the Principal Partner of her law firm, Rachel W. Friedland, PA, Rachel has honed her skills in responsibly managing a small business. Her extensive legal background equips her to navigate sensitive situations effectively. She also possesses a deep understanding of the legislative process through her work on behalf of local and statewide candidates. Rachel’s professional and political experiences have provided her with the necessary expertise to serve on the City Commission, including budget management, negotiation, and collaboration across all levels of government.

However, it is Rachel’s dedication to enhancing the lives of her children that truly sets her apart as a remarkable leader. As a single mother, attorney, education activist, sports and arts enthusiast, and philanthropist, she serves as an inspiring role model for young women who aspire to make a positive impact on their community.

Rachel is the proud mother of four wonderful children: Dylan, Alec, Ella, and Camryn, all of whom have been part of the Aventura school system since kindergarten. When she’s not practicing as a Family Law Attorney, Rachel can often be found cheering on her kids as they participate in sports in the Aventura leagues. Having chosen to raise her family in the vibrant community of The Point in Aventura, she remains committed to making Aventura the City of Excellence for life. Rachel’s tireless dedication and active service to the City of Aventura Commission and her re-election bid is a reaffirmation of her shared commitment to shape the future of our remarkable city.
